Alfred D Coleman

Military

Alfred D. Coleman was born on July 1, 1877, the son of Charles and Mary Coleman. Alfred was the oldest out of his five other siblings and had grown up in Providence, Rhode Island. When Alfred was 35, he married his wife Mary Arnold on September 2, 1912. The couple had five children, Ethel, Alfred, Charles, Florence and Dolores. In 1918, Alfred was drafted into World War 1, then in 1942, he was drafted into World War 2 at the age of 65 to work on ground crew in the 381st bomb group and the 532nd bomb squadron. Being on ground crew, he worked on planes and machines, in general, just making repairs. Alfred’s background of working at the Improved Seamless Wire Company helped him acquire the job of maintenance. After returning home, on October 18,1950, Alfred passed away at the age of 73 in Providence, Rhode Island. Although Alfred passed in 1950, his wife, Mary, lived until the late 60's and when she passed in 1968, she was added to the gravestone of her deceased husband.
