He flew on Eugene Bumpus crew. Reported to group on 01 Aug 1943. He was shot down flying on Robert McCallum crew. Shot down 14 October 1943 in B-17F 42-30813 'Queen Jeannie' while serving as Navigator. Aircraft was attacked by fighters, broke in two, and crashed near Dorne, Belgium. He was able to successfully bale out of the stricken aircraft even though he was wounded. Prisoner of War (POW)
