“Shopworn Angel”. serial 42-95917, code Y5-J. Belly landed in at Stansted returning from its 12th mission on 21st April 1944, the target a V-1 Launch site at Bonnieres, France by Captain Lucious Clay. The landing gear was damaged by flak. The aircraft was repaired and returned to duty. Later, Hit by flak over the target and crashed on Valentines Day 1945 ( 14th February 1945 ) on the mission to the Neuweid RR bridge at Engers, Germany. The pilot that day was Capt. Thomas Gough Brennan, Jnr.

Woodrum was in London on leave this day and Capt Lucius B Clay 495th Sqdn Operations Officer was flying his ship but flak damage prevented the lowering of the gear so he bellied it in. No one hurt and only damage was bent prop tips. 14 February 1945.'

Your original caption was incorrect in that Captain Clay was piloting the Y5-J when it was belly landed. The usual Captain, Hank Woodrum and crew did not fly that day. They were shot down in another plane while Y5-J was being repaired.
