Funded in 1940 at a cost (then) of £5800 via Lord Beaverbrook's scheme (British Government Minister for Aircraft Production) whereby towns and cities were encouraged to raise money to pay for the cost of RAF aircraft, this Spitfire was purchased by the citizens of Bolsover in Derbyshire. She served with 52nd Fighter Group USAAF at RAF Eglinton, Londonderry, Northern Ireland on combat air patrols and shipping escort duties from July 12th 1942-September 2nd 1942, when damaged in a collision with high-tension electricity cables. The aircraft was then assigned to a civilian repair unit in Belfast and then returned to the RAF.
