Delivered Cheyenne 25/1/44; Gr Island 20/2/44; Presque is 12/3/44; Assigned 333BS/94BG Rougham 16/3/44; 410BS; crashed on take off for Kaiserlauten 6/1/45 with Jack Collins, Navigator: Gordon Henry, tog-Clinton Hallman, Flight engineer/top turret gunner: Jim Tate, Radio Operator: Ray Von Bokel (5 Killed in Action); Co-pilot: Bob Doran, Waist gunner: Cecil Schermerhorn, Ball turret gunner: Tony Carrico, Tail gunner: Nick Urda (4 RTD - wia); lost engine on take off and ploughed into woods at Moreton Hall, near Bury St Edmunds; three civilians were injured and exploding bombs damaged several homes; Salvaged. MISSION MISTRESS.

With regards to the crew details already added, Cecil H. Schermerhorn was the Tail Gunner and Nicholas A. Urda was the Waist Gunner when 'Mission Mistress' crashed during take-off on the 6th January 1945. The Ball Turret Gunner's correct name at this time was Ony M. Carrico. Details have come from contact with surviving crewmembers, relatives of the crew and official USAAF Records. |
