42-95043 Lindie (Satan Strikes Back ?)

Consolidated Liberator B-24H-25-FO, 42-95043, "Lindie" ("Satan Strikes Back"?) was damaged by Flak above Northern France on return from the 1 August 1944 mission. Pilot Paul L. Mathison managed to bring the plane back to England. The Liberator crashed between Sheerness and East Chutch on the Isle of Sheppey, NW of Canterbury. 6 Crew members safe (Mathison; Co-Pilot Theodore Gunzig; Sergents Ira I. King; Ralph M. La Carbonara; Bruno Rybicki and Donald E. Kraeger). 1 killed in the crash (Herman Greenfeld). Among the three men who had bailed out over France, one managed to evade (Bombardier Thomas L. Boggan), the two others, Navigator James S. Anderson, (wounded) and Radio Operator Edwin W. Ritter were made prisoner. Missing Air Crew Report MACR 8234.
