P-47D-5-RE 42-8601 was assigned to the 356FG/361FS at Martlesham Heath, UK. On 29-Nov-43 the aircraft, piloted by 1LT Warren H. Beach, was despatched with other P-38s to provide escort to bombers attacking at Bremen, Germany. Shortly after crossing the Dutch coast his aircraft lost oil pressure and sustained an engine failure. 1LT Beach baled out of the aircraft and was caprtured as a Prisoner of War (POW). The aircraft crashed near Utrecht, Holland.
