P-47D-2-RE 42-7999 was assigned to the 353FG/352FS at Metfield, UK and was piloted by 2LT Lester L. Dansky on 31-Aug-43 when the aircraft sustained a mid-air collision at 30,000 feet with P-47D 42-8383 353FG/352FS while flying escort for the B-17 bomber formation attacking the German airfield at Ameins/Glisy, France. He was seen to bale out of the aircraft but his parachute failed to open and he was killed. 1KIA MACR 474.
