P-47D-2-RE 42-7995 was asssigned to the 353FG/352FS at Metfield, UK On 23-Sep-43 the aircraft, piloted by 2LT George S. Dietz, was despatched on a mission to escort B-17s attacking at Nantes, France. The flight encountered German fighters just northwest of Nantes and was shot down killing the pilot. 1KIA MACR 757.
Correction: Note the aircraft shown is SX-Y (42-76195) "Scotty Bill" assigned to Lt Bill Streit and not SX-X (42-7995) that Dietz was lost in.
