B-24 "Lady From Bristol" # 42-52100 was assigned to the 448th Bomb Group / 714th Bomb Squadron. It had been flown from the United States to England with crew # 57 of Pilot Elmer H. Hammer Jr; Co-Pilot Morgan Goodpasture (KIA on #42-7606 of 448BG/714BS- 24 February 1944); Navigator Morris A. Thomson; Bombardier Roger E. Cuddeback; Engineer/Top Turret gunner Edwin J. Wingfield; Radio Operator Thaddeus M. Domzalski; Gunners Arthur R. Krueger, Francis A. Farris, Melvin P. Rosencranz and Fred G. Rowe.



Note: Hammer, Thomson, Cuddeback, Wingfield, Krueger, Farris, Rosencranz and Rowe were later transferred to the 44th Bomb Group/66th Bomb Squadron.



On return from target on the 25 February mission to Fürth, Germany, hit by Flak, #42-52100 was last seen Southeast of Amiens, France at about 17,000ft, losing altitude, straggling behind the formation. Crashed into the sea near Le Touquet, France.

All are still listed as Missing In Action (MIA), except Jack Ghormley whose body washed ashore four months after the crash. He is buried at the American Cemetery in Colleville-sur-Mer, France where his comrades are memorialized on the Tablets of the Missing.
