P-47D-5-RE 42-8598 [OC:D] was assigned to the 356FG/359BS at Martlesham Heath, UK. On 29-Nov-43 the aircraft, piloted by 2LT John D. Hull, was despatched with tother P-47s from 356FG to provide escort to bombers attacking at Bremen, Germany. On the return his aircraft was running out of fuel due to strong headwinds so 2LT Hull, knowing he did not have enought fuel to return to base, baled out of the aircraft and was captured as a POW. The aircraft crashed at Amersfoort, Holland. 1POW MACR 1452.
