Other research indicates the aircraft was shot down from an altitude of approximately 6,900 feet (2100 meters) south-southeast of the Heligoland islands by a Bf-110 nightfighter of Nachtjagdgeschwader 3, piloted by Leutnant Helmut Niklaus (Source: http://www.asisbiz.com/il2/Bf-110/NJG1.html).
