Note : The B-17G, 42-37895, should not be mistaken for another B-17G, 44-8080, also named, The Saint, which was lost in a midair collision with the B-17G, The As-Te-Risk, as many WWII warplanes were given similar names by their aircrews.



The B-17G-20-DL, 42-37895, The Saint, was delivered to Denver, 4/11/43; Kearney 13/11/43; Assigned to the 338th Bomb Squadron, the 96th Bomb Group, and the 8th Air Force. [BX-V] Snetterton 3/12/43.



The Saint, was being flown by Lt. Oscar Williamson when it was hit by flak near Warnemunde, and Regensburg, Germany. The flak damage caused Lt. Williamson to divert and make a force landing at Bulltofta, Sweden. Lt. Williamson was first listed as (KIA). But, later, he was mistakenly listed as, Missing in Action (MIA) because he had been interned (INT) with his crew in Sweden. 9/4/44.
