Ground personnel of the 355th Fighter Group inspect the wrecks of B-17 42-37911 and several P-51 Mustangs at Steeple Morden, 1 January 1945.
B-17 42-37911 had suffered damage over Kassel, Germany, and the resulting engine trouble caused the aircraft to crash land at Steeple Morden. Unfortunately the aircraft collided with P-51s at dispersal, the aircraft exploded and all 10 of the crew were killed.

The serial numbers of the P-51s that the aircraft collided with were: 44-14374, 44-11359, 44-13571, 44-15279, 44-14704, 44-13591, 44-15346 of the 354th Fighter Squadron and 44-14434 of the 357th Fighter Squadron.
