Airspeed AS51 Horsa glider - USAAF markings painted over the original RAF ones. Rear fuselage has been removed with the quick release bolts in order that the cargo could be removed - possibly an anti tank gun or a Willy's Jeep.
Airspeed Horsa glider LH972, assigned to 437th TCG, 8th AF USAAF. Airspeed Oxford Mk II - T1371 'Windy Lynn' stalled on takeoff with loss of directional control and crashed onto parked line of gliders. Severe damage to A/C.
