On 12 October 1943, C-47 Skytrain (serial number 41-38704) was towing a CG-4A Haig glider in the Mediterranean Theatre of Operations. 41-38704 was flying through broken cloud, when 60 miles from Algiers the pilot and co-pilot (Dwight E Crist & Richard E Loomis) felt the glider pull three times, and come loose.



The Glider pilot (Erickson) and Crew Chief (McDaniels) were killed in action.



Crashed on flight from Chengkung to Sookerating, 24 May 1944.
