Beaufighter VIF KV904 416th FS, 8th AF, crashed in Bywell Farm , 1m W of RAF Eshott, Northumberland, 4 Aug 1943, due to an engine fire. AC was on a ferry flight from RAF Station Acklington to Portreath, Cornwall. The pilot 1st Lt Jack A Brewer made a crash landing near the aerodrome and the aircraft was burnt out. The crew were extricated by the prompt action of PC Laudie, Special Constable of Broomhill Police, Northumberland County Constabulary, and were later admitted to Ashington Hospital suffering from burns, lacerations, and shock.
