B-24 Liberator

First served in 345th BS, 98th BG, 9th AF with the name SHANGHAI LIL before being sent to the Project 19 depot at Gura in Eritrea for repairs.
Name was changed, probably inadvertently, to SHANGHI LIL (the "A" was dropped from "Shanghai") during repainting at Gura which also provided the "ladies" (which adorned both sides of the nose).
SHANGHI LIL stopped in the 376th BG for a short time and received their #74 identification number, though there is no record of her flying combat with the 376th.

Assigned 343rd BS, 98th BG Jul - Oct 1943.
Flew on 1st Aug 43 Ploesti oil refinery raid, aborting before target.
Lost to enemy action 24th Oct 43, over Italy, Pilot Alfred J Thomas. MACR 1061.
