'Steve' Pisanos' first Thunderbolt, named for a girl from the town in New Jersey in which he settled after emigrating from Greece in 1938, survived nine months of combat before being transferred out of the 4th Fighter Group on 28 February 1944. Pisanos transferred the cowling and nose art to this P-47D-1 in July or August that year.
