This Spitfire IX was assigned to the 133 Squadron RAF which would soon be absorbed into 8AF 4th Fighter Group. It was flown by American 8th AF pilot 2Lt. Gene P. Neville, 4th Fighter Group, 336 Squadron. The aircraft sustained battle damage while attacking the German airfield of Porjeau at Morlaix, France. The aircraft ran out of fuel and crashed, the pilot was KIA.
