44-40065 Silver Lady

Russell Ive's book states this plane's tail letter was D+ but that letter was already taken. It is doubtful that this plane ever had a tail letter as very few did on 19 May 44 when this plane was lost. We believe due to the time frame it was replaced by 42-50370 OONIE DOONIE obtained from the replacement depot for the 492nd BG. Since that plane was assigned the tail code O+ we suspect that would have been this plane's code if it had survived.

•859th Squadron Code: X4

•Tail Code: O+

•19 May 44: Lost, w/Brantley Crew 905

•Over Brunswick the wing had caught fire and the order was given to abandon ship. Only four made it out before the ship exploded. Of the four, one was found dead on the ground.

•7 KIA, 3 POW, MACR 5247

Current theory is that this aircraft was replaced with 42-50370 OONIE DOONIE obtained from the replacement depot.
