While strafing Langensalza Airdrome, aircraft was struck by flak. With engine afire and streaming glycol, pilot Lt Rufus L Patterson “pulled up to 200 ft, rolled on his back and left the aircraft,” though the chute deployed, not fully before he hit the floor. KIA. 11-Sep-44. MACR 8677.
