Failed to Return (FTR) area patrol St Quentin en Tourmont, noting high engine temps, turned for home, managing the situation and trying for the channel, losing speed and altitude. With only 4,000ft altitude flew through 20mm ground fire, control lost dove into beach and exploded. Pilot F/O Henry W Davis Killed in Action (KIA). 4-Jun-44 MACR 5505.
