Strafing the Salzwedel airfield, Capt. Morris was making his third pass on grounded German aircraft when he was hit in a mid-air collision with an enemy Me109. Captain Morris bailed out and was immediately made a POW. Missing Air Crew Report – MACR 6701 - Last sighted in the vicinity of Halle, the P-38 crashed near Rettgenstedt, 35km W of Naumburg (Saale)
